How to create a sticker
First, check if your iOS is up to date. As of June 2025, the newest version is iOS 18.5

- Open the image you want
- Touch and hold the image you want to use until you see the silver lining
- Then, choose Add sticker.
- You can add an effect if you want!—Touch the Add Effect button, you can add four different effects to your sticker.
How to add a sticker to your text
There are a few ways to add a sticker to your text. If you know more ways to add the sticker to the text, please leave a comment.
The first option:
- Touch the + icon next to the iMessage text input field
- Choose the sticker app from the list of apps
- Just touch the sticker of your preference.

- Type text as you normally do
- Touch the Emoji icon and
- Swipe from left to right,
- Or tap the Stickers icon located below emojis.

If you have not created any stickers yet, your screen might say “Open Stickers”. Tap “Open Stickers” and create a sticker.
Create live stickers
You can also create a live sticker from a video. The video you want to create a live sticker from should be in the Photos app.

- Go to the Messages app on your iPhone.
- Start a new message or open a conversation, tap +, then tap Stickers.
- Tap + again, tap a video, then tap Add Sticker.
Place stickers on message bubbles
You can add stickers to message bubbles in chats. You can angle the stickers or resize them. You can even place a sticker on top of another sticker. Admittedly, this is not easy. You might need to try a few times to place the sticker the way you want. But if you want to try, here is the direction:

- Tap the + icon next to the text input field and choose the Stickers app.
- Drag a sticker onto a conversation bubble.
- If you want to change the angle or the size of the sticker, touch and hold the sticker with your index finger and use your middle finger to rotate or resize the sticker.
Everyone in the conversation will see the sticker as soon as you place it on a message.
